10 Commandments
- Invest early in life
- Don’t panic when the stock market goes down
- Never time the market
- Build your base salary because your cost of living and merit pay is based upon your base salary. (5% X $10,000 = $500, however 5% X 100,000=$5,000 !)
- Invest in yourself. To replace a $100,000 salary, you would have to have $2 million in the bank earning 5% to generate $100,000 in income!
- If both spouses work, then live off of one salary.
- Get a 15 year mortgage instead of a 30 year mortgage. Your interest expense will be cut in half.
- If you buy a new car, keep it until it dies. The greatest amount of depreciation comes in the first 3 years.
- Keep your house thermostat at 65 degrees in the winter and 75 degrees in the summer.
- Buy insurance selecting the highest deductible. You’ll save hundreds of dollars.
